The Salvation Army is preparing for its annual Christmas and Thanksgiving assistance program and seeks community support during high demand. Last year, they aided over 800 Haywood County families during the holidays. The Western North Carolina Salvation Army, covering seven counties, has experienced a threefold increase in service requests, while their income remains below pre-Covid levels.
Donors can adopt a child, disabled adult, or senior citizen, or contribute to food boxes for needy families. Through the Angel Tree program, tags with recipients’ names and gift suggestions are placed on Christmas trees, which donors can select and return for distribution.
