Solomon Sentenced for 2019 Murder
A Swain County man has been sentenced for his involvement in the 2019 death of a Bryson City resident. Jeremy Dwight Solomon pleaded guilty to felony accessory after the fact in Swain County Superior Court on October 2, 2023. On May 10, 2019, Solomon and Daniel Ryan Sutton were arrested and initially charged with felony attempted first-degree murder after assaulting 65-year-old Jackie Carl Thomasson, who later died from his injuries, leading to upgraded murder charges. Solomon received a sentence of 80 to 108 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, with credit for 1,607 days of pretrial confinement. Sutton was found guilty of first-degree murder on September 6, 2023, and sentenced to life without parole. The assault involved Solomon punching Thomasson, while Sutton used a makeshift metal-weighted bat, striking Thomasson multiple times in the head following an argument about a truck title. Thomasson was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where he passed away on May 14, 2019.
