The North Carolina Wildlife Federation recognized Brandon Jones of Fontana dam as the public lands conservationist of the year along with eco foresters of Asheville as the conservation organization of the year at the 59th annual governors conservation achievement awards banquet this past weekend in Cary. Eco foresters works with private land owners, the eastern band of Cherokee Indians, and the n. C and us forest service to develop profitable timber harvests while protecting the soil and water resources on the land. Brandon jones started the shoreline trash pick-up on Fontana lake five years ago. Last November, more than 100 volunteers collected over 27 tons of trash one weekend and over a quarter million pounds in the last five years.
