The North Carolina 911 board has awarded $16.5 million in grants that will benefit 12 911 call centers, also known as public safety answering points across the state. Of those, Jackson County Emergency Communications will receive $18,672 dollars for a radio equipment upgrade. The only other western Carolina county to receive money from the grant is Yancy County with over five and a half million dollars for a new 911 facility. Funds for these grants are obtained by a statewide service charge per connection for any type of voice communications service provider
