First Snow in Highest of Elevations
Sections of Western North Carolina and East Tennessee were blanketed with snow overnight.
According to a statement from LeConte Lodge, a combination of rain, sleet, and snow descended steadily from Sunday night through Monday morning. By midday Monday, the lodge had accumulated over three inches of snow. The temperatures lingered around the 20s, accompanied by gentle breezes, as outlined in a recent Facebook post. Situated at an elevation of 6,593 feet, Mount LeConte stands as the third-highest peak in the Smoky Mountains. Additionally, Water Rock Knob in Jackson County also experienced a light dusting of snow on Monday.
