The era of Pisgah football bids farewell as Head Coach Brett Chappell resigns from his position, a role he has held for the past decade. Chappell concludes his remarkable tenure with an impressive streak of 10 consecutive playoff seasons. The joint announcement of his resignation was made on Monday morning by Pisgah Principal Clint Conner and Athletic Director Heidi Morgan, just three days after the Bears experienced a 23-16 defeat to Oak Grove in the second round of the state playoffs.
Since Chappell’s arrival in 2013, Canton has enjoyed a decade of successful football, marked by numerous Mountain 7 Conference titles and a notable nine-year winning streak over rival Tuscola, which concluded in 2022. Departing with a commendable 94-39 record, equating to a 70.7% win percentage, Chappell’s Bears consistently reached the playoffs over the course of 10 seasons, boasting an 8-11 playoff record.
Chappell’s impact on his players transcended the confines of the field, as he guided the program through three challenging situations: the Covid-delayed 2020 season, the flooding in August 2021, and the closure of the Canton paper mill in early 2023. As Canton reflects on the end of an era, Pisgah is now actively engaged in the search for its next head coach.
