The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians expects to open the largest medical cannabis retail store in the U.S. next year, eventually employing 400 to 500 workers, adding to the tribal’s already 7,000+ workforce, one of the largest in the state. The tribal council last year approved medical marijuana, making their territory the first place in North Carolina where medical cannabis is legal. The tribe will have a more certain opening date for its dispensary around Jan. 1, which is also when work will begin to transform the old tribal bingo building into the store, according to a release.
