Four bridges in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be closed at times over the next several weeks for routine improvements. Work kicked off on January 24th and vehicles will not be able to cross each bridge for two to three days while crews work on the repairs, alternately through Feb. 1st, according to a news release from the Park Service. In addition to the bridge repairs, new safety measures being installed alongside roadways at some trailheads and popular vistas also will cause single-lane closures at least until the end of March. This project coincides with start of the new parking fee system and is intended to help keep drivers and pedestrians safe.
