Unterreiner Slapped with Multiple Charges in Weekend Incident
A woman from Waynesville has been incarcerated for assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon. Reports from the police state that Kendall Unterreiner, 31, was apprehended on Saturday and charged with fleeing and eluding arrest, along with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
The incident began with multiple reports of reckless driving involving a white car, which was later found to be driven by Unterreiner. An officer attempted to pull her over for a traffic violation. Upon reaching the Walmart parking lot, Unterreiner backed into a spot, refused to communicate with the officer, and then collided with the patrol car while leaving the scene.
The pursuing officer maintained a cautious speed during the chase in the Walmart and Verizon parking lots. Eventually, Unterreiner was subdued, taken out of the vehicle, and restrained with handcuffs. EMS arrived and transported her from the location before she was handed over to the custody of the Haywood County Detention Center.
Unterreiner has a history with police pursuits and law enforcement in Haywood County. In June 2020, she pleaded guilty to felony flee/elude with a motor vehicle and felony larceny for stealing a Lake Junaluska security vehicle. During that particular chase, speeds had exceeded 100 miles per hour, culminating in Unterreiner being forced to a stop.
Currently, she is being held on a $25,000 bond at the Haywood County jail for the recent charges.
