Sylva’s 2023-24 budget is being touted as ‘an important achievement.’ Mayor David Nestler said this budget in particular is a major milestone because they’ve managed to fund and begin implementing some of the largest town projects to date without “hardly spending a dime of residents’ tax dollars.” The budget, which passed unanimously, includes one police patrol vehicle and a maintenance vehicle for public works. American Rescue Plan funds will largely finance a downtown public restroom on the site of the town’s old train depot.
