Search for Missing Person in Haywood County
Search efforts concluded on Saturday with no sign of Chad Seger. Plans are to resume an expanded search at first light on Sunday Morning.
There have been no responder injuries. The Haywood County Incident Management Team is managing this search and lead by our Incident Commander Captain Tony Cope of the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
Chad Seger was last heard from Monday when he spoke briefly with a family member by phone but has not been in contact since.
Seger is 27 years old and is from Asheville. He is in good physical health, is familiar with the area, and may have some hiking/camping gear with him.
His family reported him missing on Friday, and an investigation began immediately. His vehicle was located at the Black Balsam parking lot.
Several search teams from multiple Haywood County and nearby agencies spent the day in the area of Black Balsam Knob and Shining Rock Wilderness Area. A North Carolina State Trooper helicopter was also engaged in the search.
Anyone who may have seen Seger, or have information on his whereabouts since Monday are encouraged to call 828-452-6600.
The Incident Management Team is asking folks to avoid the Blue Ridge Parkway from highway 276 and 215, while the search continues as heavy congestion is making search and rescue efforts difficult.
