High School Football Opens Friday
The high school football game between the Cherokee Braves and the Smoky Mountain High School Mustangs originally scheduled for Cherokee will be played Friday night at Sylva. The game will be broadcast both of WRGC 105.7 FM and 540 AM and WBHN 94.1 FM and 1590 AM and the mobile app for both stations. The season-opening game between Brevard and Pisgah scheduled for Pisgah’s field will not be played. One reason is the field at Pisgah sustained significant damage due to the flooding of the Pigeon River this week which left the field and adjoining facilities under several feet of water. Also, reports are that Brevard had players quarantined due to the pandemic.
Games scheduled to be played are Hendersonville at North Henderson, East Henderson at Rosman, Tuscola at Madison, Murphy at Franklin, Enka at Hayesville, Asheville at Robbinsville, North Buncombe at Swain High School, and Erwin at Mitchell.
