Health Experts Urge Flu Shot
Health experts worry that more than just holiday cheer will be spread as family and friends gather for Christmas. This is National Influenza Vaccination Week (Dec. 5-11) and an important reminder to get your flu shot this season, a Jackson County Department of Public Health spokeswoman urges. Flu activity during the 2020-21 season was very low, likely because of COVID-19 prevention measures. But, the CDC urges everyone to get the flu vaccine before flu starts spreading in the community. The CDC shows North Carolina currently in the “minimal” category for the spread of flu and health experts say getting an annual vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu. Flu vaccines are available by appointment at the Jackson County Department of Public Health weekdays. Folks getting a COVID-19 booster shot may also request a flu shot at the same time.
