Haywood Online Tax Payment Issues Explained
Those trying to pay their property tax bills online before the deadline repeatedly encountered issues with the county website. Two unrelated glitches caused hiccups for some Haywood County taxpayers trying to pay their property tax bills by the early January deadline. Tax Collector officials said issues with the county’s online payment portal, coupled with mail delays, prevented tax payments from arriving in time, noting that the county has filed a grievance. Those whose property tax bills were still listed as “unpaid” in the county’s online system, when in fact they had already sent in their payment, shouldn’t worry about incurring late penalties, as the county will be honoring the postal date stamped on the payment, according to the release. The delayed mail issue is slowly being resolved, and it does appear as if the tax payment website is now working, the release noted.
