$850,000 Invested in Housing in Region A
The Southwestern HOME Consortium has awarded $850,000 to four projects in the region that will construct, enhance, or assist in housing citizens. The map to the left showcases the locations where grants have been awarded through this program in the past two years. The 2022 recipients are:
- Four Square Community Action, Inc. – $120,000 to assist landlords with upgrades to affordable rental units and to provide rental and utility deposits to tenants in Clay, Graham, and Swain Counties. Four Square expects to help repair 10 homes and assist 75 individuals.
- Givens Estates – $350,000 that is part of a $25mm project that will provide 120 affordable rental units to senior citizens in Jackson County. This project is a partnership between Givens Estates, WCU, and Mountain Projects.
- HERE in Jackson County – $150,000 to provide deposits and up to three months of rent for those experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. HERE anticipates being able to service 50 individuals.
- Waynesville Housing Authority – $206,000 to replace the existing roof on the Waynesville Tower. This project will help to preserve 62 affordable housing units that serve low to very low-income people.
