$25 Million for Waynesville Sewer Plant

The town of Waynesville has found some financial relief in covering the expenses for the renovation of its aging sewer plant. The total cost of the project has escalated to $25 million due to increasing construction costs, but the town’s leadership successfully secured a $20 million interest-free loan from the state.

To bridge the remaining gap, municipal authorities have effectively negotiated an increase in the loan amount and have also applied for a Distressed Community state grant. This strategic approach has placed the town in a favorable financial position.

Assistant Town Manager Jesse Fowler remarked, “While we are currently approximately a million dollars short in funding for the project’s completion, we anticipate that this shortfall can be gradually paid off over the course of the loan.”

Town officials are confident that the successful financing of the sewer plant reconstruction will ultimately result in cost savings for customers on their sewer bills. Construction at the facility is currently underway.
