The process of demolition is ongoing in Sylva’s commercial corridor, where excavators are clearing space for R-5600. This is a reconfiguration initiative by the N.C. Department of Transportation designed to revamp a stretch of N.C. 107 and a portion of U.S. 23 Business in the town.
Work crews meticulously sorted through the remains of 42 to 68 Asheville Highway, recovering valuable metals and recyclable materials from the remains of the buildings.
