SkyWave creates annual scholarship at SCC

James Sutton of SkyWave Wireless Internet presents a check to Southwestern Community College President Don Tomas, establishing an annual scholarship through the SCC Foundation. Also pictured is Brett Woods, Director of the SCC Foundation.

James Sutton had a great role model growing up.

His mother, Theresa Seals, always displayed a generous heart and a passion for education. That rubbed off on Sutton – owner of SkyWave Wireless Internet – and it’s the primary reason he recently worked with the Southwestern Community College Foundation to set up an annual scholarship.

“My mother grew up poor and went to a college where you had to work, so she always gave back to me and my friends for education,” Sutton said. “So I’m paying it forward. She had help to get through college, so she always helped anyone she could.”

The new scholarship will go to an SCC student interested in pursuing a degree in the Information Technologies program.

It will be awarded later this year.

“This new scholarship will be a tremendous blessing for one of our students this fall,” said Dr. Don Tomas, SCC President. “On behalf of our students, I am grateful to James, SkyWave and everyone who supports scholarships through the SCC Foundation.”
