NC DMV Continues To Seek Applicants For License Plate Agency in Sylva

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is still in the process of accepting applications for a commissioned contractor to manage a license plate agency in Sylva.

In the state of North Carolina, LPAs (license plate agencies) are overseen by the NCDMV but are operated by either private businesses or local governments.

The existing agency, situated at 454 E. Main St. in Sylva, is scheduled to shut down on December 15. It has been under the management of Barry and Debra Woods since 2021.

As per the division’s guidelines, applications for operating a license plate agency are made available after the expiration or conclusion of a contract, or in case there is a requirement for a new or additional agency in a specific county. Completed applications need to be submitted to the NCDMV no later than November 10. These applications can be accessed online through the Connect NCDOT website. License plate agencies offer a range of services, including vehicle registration, title transactions, vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags, and duplicate registrations. Currently, there are 127 license plate agencies operating in North Carolina.

It is important to note that many vehicle-related services can now be conveniently carried out online, such as property tax payments and registration renewals.
