Drug Traffickers Apprehended

Last month, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office made significant arrests in separate incidents involving alleged drug trafficking. The individuals in question, Hunter Lee Lewis, 27, and John McKinley Davis, 34, were both apprehended on a range of serious charges.

Lewis, a resident of Sylva, faced a series of allegations, including trafficking methamphetamine by both possession and transport. During a routine traffic stop on U.S. 23/74, deputies discovered roughly 40 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle Lewis was riding in. Further investigation revealed his possession of suboxone, leading to additional charges.

Davis, hailing from Waynesville, encountered legal troubles of his own. His charges included multiple felony counts, encompassing trafficking methamphetamine, maintaining a place for distributing controlled substances, and possessing a variety of controlled substances. His apprehension, also resulting from a traffic stop on U.S. 23/74, uncovered approximately 31 grams of suspected methamphetamine, alongside fentanyl, marijuana, and an assortment of other drugs.

The severity of their alleged offenses has led to both Lewis and Davis being held in the Jackson County Detention Center. Lewis’s bail is set at $250,000, while Davis is under a $200,000 secured bond. These arrests reflect the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to curb drug-related activities in the county.
