Jackson County Public Schools has officially accepted the resignation of Rick Brindley, the head football coach at Smoky Mountain High School. Brindley will be taking on the role of head football coach at his alma mater, Pisgah High School. Having joined SMHS in 2018 after transitioning from Pisgah High School, Brindley has not only served as the head football coach but also taken on responsibilities as the athletic director and a physical education teacher.

Under Coach Brindley’s leadership, our student athletes have diligently worked towards restoring SMHS as a formidable program in western North Carolina, and we express our gratitude for his dedicated service.

In adherence to contractual obligations, Brindley is expected to fulfill a 30-day time commitment, a requirement for all contracted and certified teachers. During this period, he will collaborate closely with the administration to facilitate a seamless transition for the football program, athletic department, and physical education curriculum.

To fill the vacancy left by Coach Brindley, we have initiated an immediate search for a replacement. This process aligns with our preparations for spring workouts and the upcoming fall season. Interested candidates can find position postings at https://jcpsnc.org/departments/human-resources.
