Britney Spears Vows to ‘Bring Substance to the Table’ in Post About Pushing Back Against ‘Garbage’ Comments About Her

Britney Spears continues to speak out in the midst of the headline-grabbing roll-out of ex-husband Kevin Federline‘s upcoming tell-all memoir, You Thought You Knew. And while the singer has been careful about not directly naming names, an Instagram post on Sunday night (Oct. 19) appeared to be another shot at the salacious stories promised in former dancer KFed’s book.

The long note began with a tribute to the 2014 Angelina Jolie movie Maleficent and the tale of the title character’s wings being clipped (caged, really), a trauma that Spears relates to a moment she covers in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, in which she said she was held captive during her conservatorship.

“I had a traumatic experience as some of you know at the end of my book where for 4 months I no longer had my private door and illegally was forced to not use my feet or body to go anywhere… for a person like me who understands the sacredness is god speed… it did more than hurt my body,” wrote Spears, who noted that there was much more that she didn’t share in the best-selling autobiography, including things that she has continued to keep hidden because they are “incredibly painful and sad.”

The post was accompanied by an undated photo of Spears riding a horse while wearing white short shorts, a black cowboy hat and a bikini top. She wrote that it felt like lasting damage was done to her body during that time when she was under the strict provisions of the 13-year conservatorship, in which all her private and business affairs were overseen by her estranged father and lawyers; the conservatorship ended in Nov. 2021.

“I do feel the logic and mindfulness in my body as ONE was 100 percent murdered and destroyed I couldn’t dance or move for 5 months,” said the pop star who has continued to post her signature dance videos for the past several years after claiming that she fully intends to stay out of the music business. “I know my post and dancing seemed silly but it made me remember how to fly… I used to swim with my babies on my back till they were 4 and 5 I was incredibly strong,” she added of her now 19- and 20-year-old sons with Federline, Jayden and Preston.

Going back to the solace she’s taken in the Maleficent story, Spears described the title character finding her wings again at the end of the film before dropping a bombshell about a traumatic brain injury she said she suffered many years ago. “I do feel like my wings were taken away and brain damage happened to me a long time ago 100 percent… I have of course moved on from that troubling time in my life and I’m blessed to be alive,” wrote Spears without elaborating on the time frame or nature of the reported brain injury.

“Still to this day I haven’t flown like I use to do you think if I go to the Vatican I might find something quite interesting there??????,” Spears asked before appearing to allude to the sensational tales leaked so far from the Federline book, which includes allegations that the pop star drank wine while she was pregnant with their children and did cocaine while she was breastfeeding.

“Its fun to tell stories at this point because this all might sound so silly but with what garbage literally is being said about me I said why not bring SUBSTANCE to the table,” wrote Spears, who previously lashed out at what she called Federline’s “constant gaslighting.”

The latest comments from Britney came after an earlier post last week in which she claimed KFed was looking to “profit” off of her pain. Spears’ team has also pushed back at the stories from the KFed memoir that have leaked so far, claiming that “once again he [Federline] and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

“To be loved unconditionally and with a naive heart like mine, always being threatened or made to believe I’m the bad one as they profit off my pain,” Spears wrote last week without naming Federline directly in her first public response. “Oh dear Jesus show me there is a God and I can too be loved unconditionally and not have to be so perfect cause it’s really interesting. I 100 percent beg to differ the way he is literally attacking me in his interviews. If truth be told the man in the interview went STRAIGHT TO the SOURCE and said it CLEAR AS DAY… no money from Britney for 5 years you trying to get paid that’s what general America is saying weird you both have moved on… your kids are adults it’s a different world now … why is HE SO ANGRY.”

In an accompanying Instagram post over the weekend, Spears shared an image of an ornate church and what she said was the last bit of advice she said she got from her grandfather before he died. “He said promise me one thing… people will talk and talk and he said the world can be a very cruel place… he said promise me you wont care what these ignorant people say and lie about you,” Spears wrote, seemingly referring to her father’s father, who died in 2012.

“he said you stay fearless… thats in your blood… to be fearless… don’t become crippled and scared and a person explaining yourself so you give them the entitlement to make you less than them,” Spears said of her late grandfather’s advice. “when people really understand the power of your name alone people will test you and do absolutely anything to pull you down… now I understand why he said that… he said look up my dear child I will tell you exactly what to do!!!!!”
