Winter Weather A Possibility Late Week

There is the potential for a significant winter weather event this weekend across Western North Carolina and the Upstate.

Updated forecast guidance suggests wintry precipitation could begin as early as late Friday night into Saturday morning, with impacts possibly continuing into Sunday. A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is on the table, which could lead to hazardous travel — and, in spots, the risk of icing.

Because the system is still several days out, exact timing and totals remain uncertain and could change as newer forecast data comes in. Even so, this is shaping up to be a messy setup, and people are encouraged to keep checking the latest updates and keep weekend travel plans flexible, especially Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25.
