The Sylva Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run chase from last Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 31). The incident began when an SPD Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Dollar Tree on N.C. 107, and the driver proceeded towards Sylva, then accelerated quickly and crossed into the wrong side of the road where it collided with a vehicle waiting to turn onto Walter Ashe Road, but kept going. Sheriff’s deputies quickly caught up with the fleeing vehicle which had crashed on Cowboy Way near U.S. 23/74. The case remains active and police said charges are pending.
