Sylva LPA Closing This Week
The License Plate Agency in Sylva is set to close as the existing operator’s contract is reaching its conclusion.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) confirmed on December 11th that the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ license plate agency (LPA) in Jackson County will cease operations at 5 p.m. on December 15th following the expiration of the current operator’s contract. Operated by Barry and Debra Woods since 2021, the current agency located at 454 E. Main St. in Sylva will undergo closure. In October, NCDMV had announced an application window for a new contractor in Jackson County with intentions to establish a new location under the Jackson County Government at the earliest opportunity.
Meanwhile, three nearby license plate agencies will continue to provide services from Monday through Friday:
– Bryson City, situated at 101 Mitchell St., operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Waynesville, located at 80 Waynesville Plaza, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Franklin, positioned at 353 Westgate Plaza, operational from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
LPAs offer a range of services including vehicle registration, title transactions, vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags, and duplicate registrations. Presently, there are 124 license plate agencies functioning across North Carolina. It’s important to note that many vehicle-related services can be conveniently completed online, encompassing property tax payments and registration renewals.
