SMHS Football Team Gears Up For Practice
The Smoky Mountain football team is set to commence practice under a new head coach on Wednesday, July 31.
J.T. Postell, who previously served as head coach at East Gaston and Tuscola, has succeeded Ricky Brindley. Brindley stepped down after six seasons to assume the head coaching position at Pisgah.
The initial practice session will begin at 6:30 p.m. for players in grades 9-12. Full gear and contact practices will start on the sixth day. Postell expressed his gratitude to the community for the warm welcome he has received in Jackson County. Preseason scrimmages are scheduled for 5 p.m. on August 9 at Enka (JV and varsity) and 7 p.m. on August 16 at Andrews (varsity only).
The first game of the season will take place at home on August 23 against Cherokee.
