SCC, WGU North Carolina announce transfer agreement
On Monday, May 23, Southwestern Community College officials signed a partnership agreement with WGU North Carolina – an affiliate of the nonprofit, fully online Western Governors University.
The agreement ensures that SCC graduates receive credit for completed coursework so that they can seamlessly transfer to WGU in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.
The partnership additionally allows SCC alumni, faculty and staff to apply for specially designated WGU Community College Partner Scholarships valued at a total of $2,500 over two years (or four academic terms).
“This is an excellent opportunity for our graduates who can benefit from the flexibility of furthering their education online,” said Dr. Don Tomas, SCC’s President.
Officially launched in 2017, WGU North Carolina offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fields of business, information technology, K-12 education and healthcare – including nursing.
Tuition is around $4,000 per six-month term for most undergraduate degree programs.
“WGU North Carolina is committed to working with nationally recognized institutions like Southwestern Community College to help meet our state’s changing workforce needs,” said Ben Coulter, Ed.D., Chancellor of WGU North Carolina. “This agreement paves the way for accelerated pathways to accredited bachelor’s and master’s degrees at a low cost.”
