Renovations Coming For Community Table
Renovations are underway at The Community Table in Sylva, which will temporarily close the facility’s dining room through the second week of July.
Executive Director Paige Christie says the project is being funded through grants and donations. Upgrades include installing tile flooring in the kitchen and new vinyl flooring in the dining area.
While the dining room is closed, the food pantry will remain open, and pre-prepared frozen meals will be available for pickup.
Local gardeners with surplus produce are encouraged to donate their extra vegetables to help stock the pantry. These fresh items will be distributed to individuals and families who rely on home-cooked meals.
Christie also noted that the organization is facing growing pressure to expand services, especially with anticipated reductions in state and federal food assistance programs for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents. A feasibility study is currently underway to explore options for expanding operations to meet those future needs.
