Haywood County leaders are closer to figuring out financing for a multi-million-dollar jail expansion, years in the making. Residents will likely see work beginning this spring to expand the Haywood County jail in Waynesville, as county leaders continue to look for ways to finance the project that comes with a more than $21 million price tag, including using some of the county’s fund balance and raising Haywood County residents’ tax rate. County leaders have set a February 20th public hearing for more discussion about the financing.
