Moisture Concerns Prompt Temporary Relocation of JCEC
Out of an abundance of caution, Jackson County Early College (JCEC) students and staff will be temporarily relocated following the discovery of moisture in the building they currently occupy on Southwestern Community College’s (SCC) campus. The decision was made to ensure the health and safety of all involved, with immediate steps taken to address the situation.
The building, which is owned by SCC but used by JCEC, is undergoing assessment to determine the extent of the moisture issue. In the meantime, starting tomorrow, October 17, students and staff will attend classes in the Balsam building, also located on SCC’s campus. Principal Evelyn Graning will provide additional details regarding specific class assignments and procedures for arrival and dismissal later this evening to students and families.
Both transportation and school nutrition services will continue uninterrupted during the relocation. JCEC administration is working closely with SCC to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible, while minimizing disruption to students’ education.
JCEC officials emphasized that the health, safety, and well-being of students remain the top priority during this transition. The school aims to ensure minimal impact on students’ learning experience during the relocation.
For any questions concerning the JCEC facility, families are encouraged to contact Dr. Don Tomas, President of Southwestern Community College, or Megan Nicholson, SCC’s Director of Emergency Services/Safety Coordinator, at (828) 339-4000. For other inquiries, contact Principal Graning or the JCEC administration directly.
