Macon County Airport Could See Upgrades
The Macon County Airport could be seeing a major upgrade in their fuel storage operations. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has been urging facilities to transition from underground storage tanks to above ground facilities. If approved the new fuel farm would include the larger and taller twelve-thousand-gallon tanks which would enable the airport authority to move away from enlisting local fuel trucks to deliver aviation fuel on demand. The North Carolina Department of Transportation recently awarded Macon County with $900,000 for the project. However, the county must provide a ten percent match for the project to move forward.
