Jackson County Seeks Volunteers for Historic Celebrations
In preparation for the U.S. 250th anniversary and Jackson County’s 175th, the county is forming committees to organize events that highlight local and state history. Volunteers from diverse sectors, government, cultural institutions, Native American tribes, nonprofits, tourism, and community groups are encouraged to apply.
The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources will offer support once the committees are established. Each county committee will submit membership details and appoint a liaison to communicate with state leadership.
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved the formation of the committee on February 4. The initiative will emphasize Jackson County’s history and heritage, with programming developed in partnership with the Arts Council and local organizations. Efforts will include social media outreach and events focused on literacy, history, and community engagement.
Interested individuals can apply via www.jacksonnc.org/volunteer or contact the County Manager’s Office at 828-631-2213. Applications are due to the County Manager’s Office or can be emailed to Angie Winchester at angiewinchester@jacksonnc.org.
Applicants should indicate “America 250” and/or “Jackson 175” on their application form.
