Wanted Fugitive in Sex Offenses

The Asheville Police Department is searching for a fugitive who failed to show up for a court hearing Thursday, March 17, 2016.

Matthew Edwards was later reported missing by family members. Family told authorities that Edwards may have fled the area with intentions to harm himself.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the attempts by law enforcement to locate Edwards.

Order for arrest have been issued for two counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child and sexual offense with a parental role.

Edwards is described as a white male, 38 years old, 6’01”, medium build, 185 pounds, blue eyes, fair skin and was last known to have a shaved head, goatee and known to wear glasses.

If any member of the public has information concerning the location of Edwards, they are encouraged to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110 or Buncombe County Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.

Citizens should use caution if Edwards is encountered, as he is aware of the fact that law enforcement is actively seeking him.
