Sheriff’s Office Seeks Help Locating Suspects

Recently the Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the public in regards to several breaking and enterings and larcenies in the Qualla/Whittier communities of Jackson County. The Sheriff’s Office has obtained arrest warrants for suspects in some of these break ins. Tara Renee Pheasant, aka Tara McCoy, DOB 08/24/1976, and Frank Joseph McCoy, DOB 08/27/1993, have not been located at the time of this release, but the Sheriff’s office is asking for anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact our crime stoppers at 828-631-1125 or crimestoppers@jacksonnc.org Frank is the son of Tara Pheasant and both have been charged in Haywood County on similar charges and are out on bond.

12th Annual Green Thumb Day

Nelumno_nucifera_open_flower_-_botanic_garden_adelaide2Whittier community will hold its 12th annual Green Thumb Day Festival on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. along Main and Church streets. The event will include local artists and crafters, live plants and yard sales. Free tree seedlings and information on plants and planting will be available from County Extension Director Rob Hawk. A historical exhibit on early Whittier will be on display at Stuff-n-Such, located across from the post office. Live bluegrass music will be provided by Keep on Pickin’; mountain songs by fretless banjo maker Joshua Grant; and gospel favorites and old-time favorites by the Mountain Strings Dulcimer Club of Bryson City.

 

Shooting in Whittier on October 3rd

Yesterday the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a gunshot wound at 248 Old Glory Ridge Road in Whittier at 12:30 p.m. The victim, Dean Williamson was flown to Mission Hospital and remains in critical condition. Police questioned Williamson’s wife, Debbie Williamson. It is not known at this time if Debbie Williamson is considered a suspect.
