A lot of people are wondering if the Sylva branch office of the DMV will ever reopen. The state closed an number of the branches, including the one in Sylva – due to the pandemic. News 13 reports that the state DOT continues to say that the closure is NOT permanent. However, it was one of 30 smaller offices that were ordered closed back in March. The workers at the smaller offices have been reassigned to locations in larger areas to help schedule mandatory appointments. While some of the smaller branches have reopened, 19 of the state’s 115 driver’s license bureaus – remain closed, including the branch in Sylva. The state says the office will reopen as soon as it is deemed safe to do so and when the office can be sufficiently staffed.
