Swain County United Gift Fund Announces Donation

The Swain County United Gift Fund (SCUGF) is pleased to announce a donation of $2000 from Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. This donation will be applied to our 2021 campaign to raise funds for participating nonprofits in Swain County.  The generosity of Harrah’s Cherokee will go a long way towards helping the families of Swain County who are still reeling under the impacts of COVID-19 on our community.

By conducting a consolidated fund drive for the participating nonprofit organizations here, SCUGF enables those non-profits to focus more on service delivery to the community and less on fundraising.  For our donors they like the idea of “giving once to benefit many.”  The 2020 fund drive raised over $70,000 that is being distributed to 17 Swain County nonprofits:  Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Swain County, Bryson City Food Pantry, Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Swain County, Family Resource Center of Swain County, Friends of Bryson City Cemetery, the Giving Spoon, Hope Springs Eternal, Julia Hunt Scholarship Fund, Marianna Black Library, Maroon Strong Foundation, Mountain Mediation, Restoration House, Smoky Mountain Community Theater, Swain Arts Enrichment, Swain County Caring Corner, Swain/Qualla SAFE, and Together We Raise of Swain County.  The fund drive relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses who have a vested interest in the people of Swain County.  Every donation, no matter how big or small, matters and 100% of the dollars contributed will be distributed to nonprofits.

Toby Allman, Leslie Barr, Christine Colcord, Donna Ennis, Amber Gilliam, Lisa Kim Fisher, Rachel Lackey, Mike Shakar, Erin Walker-Smith, Cynthia Womble, and Ann Marie Wright comprise the 2021 committee. SCUGF is a donor-advised fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (a 501c3 charitable organization) that provides professional management.

Donations by check made out to Community Foundation of WNC can be mailed to SCUGF, Post Office Box 222, Bryson City, NC 28713.  Donations by credit card can be made by clicking on the “Donate Now” button and selecting “Swain County United Gift Fund” on The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina website www.cfwnc.org
