Suspect Sought In Home Invasion

The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public in identifying a man involved in a home invasion that occurred at Lake Junaluska Monday evening.

Officers were dispatched to Hickory Hill Road around 9:15 p.m. Monday on a 911 call regarding a burglary in progress. Early investigation findings show a stranger broke into the occupied home by kicking in a door. When the home owner confronted the stranger, the man dropped items detectives believe he was attempting to steal from the home and fled the scene. None of the residents of the home were injured.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black man about six feet tall with a muscular build wearing a green shirt, light blue jeans, black shoes and a black bandana on his head. He left the scene in a white 2000s-model Mercury SUV with temporary tags.

Anyone having any information regarding the suspect or the incident is asked to call the Haywood County Communications Center at (828) 452-6666 as soon as possible.
