Speed Limit to Drop During Repair

Motorists heading west on U.S. 74 to Waynesville and points beyond will need to be more alert and aware during new construction beginning Monday.

One westbound lane will be closed near Exit 104 for one mile in Haywood County in order for an N.C. Department of Transportation team to perform maintenance on a bridge over Richland Creek.

The speed limit will be dropped to 45 miles per hour, and warning signs will be placed ahead of the closure in order to enhance safety in an area with limited sight distance and other construction.

Delays are expected — especially during peak travel times — until the improvements are completed on May 19.

Transportation officials remind motorists to slow down, be aware and obey all posted signs to increase the level of safety for motorists and workers.
