Smith Sentenced in Court

An Andrews man received a 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to a slew of charges, including first-degree burglary and selling drugs, District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch said.
This month, Dustin Loyd “Cash” Smith, 39, in Cherokee County Superior Court admitted to:
• Possession with intent to manufacture, sale and distribute methamphetamine. During a traffic stop on March 14, 2019, Cherokee County deputies found a clear baggie containing the drug.
• Two counts possess firearm by felon.
• First-degree burglary. On March 29, 2019, Smith broke into a garage in Murphy and stole tools.
• Possession of stolen motor vehicle on March 28, 2019.
• Robbery with dangerous weapon. On May 18, 2019, Smith admitted stealing a 2010 Kawasaki Ninja.
• Traffick in methamphetamine. While serving outstanding warrants on April 4, 2020, deputies went to a house in Andrews. Smith ran out the back door, but was apprehended. Law enforcement officers discovered methamphetamine in the residence.
Assistant District Attorney Jim Moore prosecuted the case.
