Small And Independent Contractors To Pool Together For Insurance Coverage

In a bipartisan vote, the North Carolina Senate today passed legislation that allows small businesses and independent contractors to pool together for insurance coverage, providing small businesses with a cost-effective health insurance option to offer their employees. Senate Bill 86, The Small Business Health Care Act – allows small businesses and sole proprietors to band together and form Association Health Plans (AHPs) to be classified as one “large employer” for the purpose of offering health benefits. This will allow small businesses to enjoy the same regulatory and financial advantages as large corporations when it comes to purchasing health insurance for their employees.
