Scholarship for Excellence created for SCC students

Many students at Southwestern Community College have had to make sacrifices in order to attend school – this is something that Robert L. “Jack” and Dorothy B. “Dot” Lyday understood very well.

Robert L. “Jack” and Dorothy B. “Dot” Lyday both came from families who valued education and made huge sacrifices to see that all of their children received a college degree.

The Lydays desired to see others succeed through hard work and dedication to bettering their communities and receiving their education.

This is why Jack and Dorothy’s daughter, Sylvia Lyday-Goforth and her husband William created the Robert L. “Jack” and Dorothy B. Lyday Scholarship for Excellence at SCC in their honor.

This scholarship is for SCC students obtaining their associate degrees.

Students must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated financial need and who has interests in community service and exhibits civic responsibility through involvement in the local community and participation in voluntary associations, which seek to improve the community and the lives of others.
