Road injuries are a leading cause of unintentional deaths in children in the United States but correctly-used car seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71%. Of the car seats being used, 46% are not properly installed or used correctly. To help tip these statistics in the right direction, Safe Kids Jackson County has partnered with the Walmart in Sylva to host a car seat safety checkup event on September 21, 2019 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM in honor of Child Passenger Safety Month.
At this car seat safety checkup event, nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, Safe Kids Jackson County, and Jackson County Department of Public Health staff will work to make sure children in our community are riding safely in the car. Staff will teach parents how to avoid common mistakes as they install their car seats as well as offer tips and advice about the car seat they are using.
