The Roy Radio Morning Show comes your way six mornings a week on WRGC. Sometimes billed as “Ole Roy’s Radio Morning Show “I try to insert some news and sports comments along with tidbits that show up on the Twitter page,” said Roy Burnette. “I started at WBHN radio station in Bryson City, NC in 1969, joined the Marine Corps that same year. I was fortunate to spend some time with the American Forces Vietnam Network.” added Burnette. After returning from the military Roy returned to his hometown station for a few months before moving to Sylva, NC to work at WMSJ which later became WRGC. After obtaining a degree from WCU Burnette accepted a position teaching broadcasting at Southwestern Community College then later joined the Exceptional Children’s Program at Cherokee Central Schools. Ownership changes at the radio stations in Franklin, NC gave Roy the opportunity to be part of a major rebuild operation which in part laid the groundwork for the rebuild of WRGC Radio in Sylva which Burnette purchased in 2012, and 1590 WBHN which was added in 2016. Both stations now utilize Westwood One programming including “Real County” in Bryson City and the AC package in Sylva.
