MJ Back on Top 20

MJ EscapeThe King of Pop is regaining his chart crown. Michael Jackson’s new single “Love Never Felt So Good” has entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #20, giving the late singer his highest charting single since 2002, when “Butterflies” reached #14.  Since his death in 2009, Michael’s been on the chart twice — with “Hold My Hand” in 2011, and then again in 2013, when “Thriller” returned to the chart — but this is his biggest posthumous hit.  It’s from the forthcoming album XSCAPE, due May 13.

“Love Never Felt So Good” is available both as a solo Michael song, and as a duet with Justin Timberlake, but Billboard notes that 80 percent of the sales are for the duet.

Meanwhile, Michael will be featured in some way at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards. It’s been announced that the singer’s estate has “created a Michael Jackson world premiere experience” which will make “television history,” and which is described as “Michael Jackson like you’ve never seen him before.”

There are no further details, but sources tell Showbiz411.com that MJ will appear “through an amazing new technology.”  Could it be some sort of Michael Jackson hologram?  An insider tells the website that describing it that way “is not wrong.”  You’ll just have to tune in and see when the Billboard Music Awards air Sunday night, May 18 on ABC, live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Britney Spears In Vegas

Britney Spears

Britney Spears has been packing them in at Planet Hollywood’s Axis theater in Las Vegas. In fact, the response has been so great that the “… Baby One More Time” singer has been offered $12 million to extend her two-year residency through at least 2016.

Caesars Palace President Gary Selesner tells the New York Daily News, “Britney Spears has been a great success for the company and will be extended, if she wants to do it, and I cannot see why not,” noting, ”She has been filling out the place every night, and she is enjoying it and is in good health.”

On top of that, the 32-year-old pop diva is getting the royal treatment in Sin City, according to Selesner, who says, “She has a good life, coming in on private jet….She has a villa upstairs at Caesars and really enjoys it here — so why wouldn’t she stay?”

Britney’s original two-year deal, which ends in 2015, will reportedly net the singer $30 million.

Extremely Small, Cramped Tokyo Apartments

The fact that these “apartments” are this small is bad enough, but add on a $600 a month price tag and communal bathrooms and I think I would take the longer morning commute.

With such a dense population in the major cities of Japan these are the types of apartments many live in.

Adel Hint’s At New Album?

AdelAdele turned 26 on Monday, but in acknowledging her age with a tweet, she may have also dropped a huge hint about her long-awaited next album. “Bye bye 25… See you again later in the year,” she wrote, and posted a make-up free photo of herself sitting on a couch grimacing and giving a thumbs-up. What does she mean by that? Possibly that her new album will be called 25, after her age when she made it. Her first two albums were, of course, titled 19 and 21, after her respective ages at the time. In addition, the “later in the year” reference seems to jibe with reports that the new album will be out later in 2014. While Adele’s collaborators have spoken about working on her new project, this is closest the singer herself has come to acknowledging that a new album is not only in the works, but could be near completion. Stay tuned.

Man nabbed riding back of airport train

A man was caught on Tuesday straddling the back of a train from Rome’s central station, in a desperate attempt to catch his flight after the doors closed before he could get inside a carriage. The Somali man was stopped by police at Rome’s Termini station, after being spotted sitting precariously on the back of the train bound for Fiumicino airport.

Arriving late to catch his train, “without worrying about the possible consequences, he clung to the rear of the train as it was leaving the platform,” the police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The scene was caught on CCTV (below), showing the train pulling out of Termini and a passenger on the platform nonchalantly glancing at the Somali man clutching onto the back of it.

Police proved more concerned, however, with stopping the train and charging the man for interrupting the public service, ignoring his plea that he had a flight to catch to Sicily.

Paula Deen Nationwide Tour

Paula LiveAfter spending the previous year battling negative headlines, TV personality Paula Deen is hitting the comeback trail with a 20-city nationwide tour. Paula Deen Ventures announced Monday that the celebrity cook will kick-off “Paula Deen Live!” on June 21 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The 90-minute show will feature storytelling and cooking demonstrations, along with interactive games. The first seven shows of Deen’s tour were also announced, and will include Atlanta, Nashville, San Antonio, Texas, and Savannah, Georgia. The additional 13 shows will be announced soon. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting May 1 at 10 a.m. Deen’s announcement comes three week after Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House — the Savannah, GA restaurant she co-owned with her brother, Earl W. “Bubba” Hiers Jr. — closed its doors.  The restaurant was at the center of Deen’s cascading troubles last year, which began when a former Uncle Bubba’s employee filed a lawsuit against Deen, alleging racial and sexual discrimination. In a deposition in the case, Deen admitted she had used a racial slur 30 years prior.  The fallout, including Deen’s widely-criticized attempts to explain herself, caused numerous sponsors to abandon her and the TV Food Network to end its association with her.  The lawsuit was eventually dismissed following a settlement.

New “Hotel California” Rendition

foreigner-650-430When Styx, Foreigner and ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder announced in February that they’d be hitting the road together this summer, they promised to release a new, collaborative rendition of the Eagles’ classic “Hotel California,”  which Felder co-wrote.

Well, on Wednesday that version arrived, streaming exclusively on USA Today’s website.  As Felder told ABC News Radio recently, the newly recorded rendition features guitar solos by himself, Styx’s Tommy Shaw and Foreigner’s Mick Jones, and lead vocals shared between Felder, Shaw, Foreigner frontman Kelly Hansen and Styx singer/keyboard player Lawrence Gowan.

The track will appear on an upcoming compilation CD, The Soundtrack of the Summer, which also happens to be the name of the tour.  The album, which will be available exclusively at Walmart beginning May 6, is made up mostly of classic Foreigner and Styx tunes.  Another collaborative track that finds Felder joining forces with Foreigner for a version of that band’s 1984 hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” will be available only on a limited-edition vinyl single and via iTunes.

As previously reported, the Soundtrack of the Summer tour gets under way May 15 in Wichita, Kansas, and is plotted out through an August 17 show in Des Moines, Iowa.  Felder will appear at all dates through the end of July.

Chinese man pranks ex-boss over wage dispute by sending him baby ducks.

For today’s weird news story I found an article about a Chinese worker who sent 1300 baby ducks to his ex boss over a wage dispute. To make things more interesting the man sent them to his boss Cash On Delivery, the boss refused to pay for the shipment of baby ducks and the police were involved. Weird.

That’s a LOT of baby ducks.

The worker said, “It was drastic but necessary. I hope the ducks drove him quackers.”
