Mustangs Take Brooms To East Henderson Basketball Game

So to Speak, the Mustangs took four games from the East Henderson Eagles on Friday. The Lady Mustang JV Team set the tempo for the night with a 46 to 14 blow-out. The JV boys bounced back after taking their first loss of the season earlier in the week at Mountain Heritage with a dominating 80 to 25 point win. The hardest battle of the night was the Lady Mustangs 46 to 42 point win over the Lady Eagles who are having their best season in a decade. The Eagles dressed out only eight players and all played and a couple of the players missing time due to physical contact with the floor and fellow players. The Lady Mustangs opened a nine point lead in the third quarter but could not hold it. East Henderson’s comeback resulted in a 42 to 42 point tie with six seconds left to play. After a two point shot by Andrea Floyd gave the Mustangs a two point lead East Henderson missed their shot to tie the game. Braden Lewis got the rebound and after being fouled she sank two from the charity stripe to secure a four point win 46 to 42. The Lady Mustangs now commence preparations the Franklin Lady Panthers who will be coming to Sylva on Tuesday.
The Varsity Boys came on the court with a vengeance taking an early 12 to 0 point lead and did not take their foot off the accelerator. It was 20 to six at the end of the first quarter, 55 to 18 at the half, 75 to 24 after three and the final was 84 to 33, a 51 point win. It was good to see Gage Kosnick in the game after missing the first half of the season with an injury. Kosnic had six points. Nate Coffee added 12, Nate Crowe with 3, Alex Espinoza with 7, Jared Hughes scored 6, Trey Hamilton with 2, Cole Lamb scored 12, Tyler Waliezer with 15, Tommy Brennan led the Mustangs with 17, Cody Lominac had 2 from the free throw line, and Andrew Cobaugh scored 2. The only Mustang to dress out, play, but not score was Zeb Sink. The Mustangs with Face Franklin in the New Mustangs Gym on Tuesday. The game will be available on 540 WRGC starting around 6:15.
