In Franklin on March 17th Mustang starting pitcher Cole Hooper no hit the Panthers through 6 2/3 innings. With two out back to back singles and a wind aided double by Rion Kussow gave the Panthers the walk off win.
Fast Forward to Tuesday afternoon in Sylva. Mustang Zebby Mathews on the mound for the Mustangs struck out ten and limited the Panthers to six hits surrendering a run in the fifth and an error assisted run in the sixth which allowed the Panthers to tie the score at two. Cole Hooper came in the relieve Mathews in the top of the seventh facing first of all Rion Kussow who had knocked in the winning run in the March game. Kussow did not get a chance to beat Hooper again, instead getting a base on balls. Hooper induced fly balls to Andrew Terrell, Blake Gibson, and Tye Chastain keeping the score tied and opening the door for the Mustangs to celebrate their own seventh inning walk off win. The Mustangs had gotten only two hits off Panthers pitcher Hayden Price who entered the game in the third to relieve Andrew Terrell who struggled in the second allowing the Mustangs to take a two to nothing lead. Price looked to dominate again in the seventh getting Waliezer and Williamson to fly out. Back to the top of the order and Matthew Ridley delivered a well placed single into left field. This was followed by back to back walks to Zebby Matthews and Cole Hooper. Trevor Lewis had not had a great day at the plate having struck out twice and rolling a tapper to first base for a hit less afternoon. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Lewis received a hittable pitch which he drove to the left field fence which allowed Matthew Ridley to trot home from third base for the walk off 3 to 2 WIN!!!!!!! The ball landed just short of home run and grand slam distance.
Both teams are now 7 and 3 in conference play.
