The Tuscola Christmas Tournament gets underway today at noon Tuscola High School. Girls action will open the tournament when Rosman faces North Buncombe. That will be followed by boys action with the Rosman Tigers up against the North Buncombe Black Hawks who enter the tournament with only one loss and that to powerhouse Mountain Heritage. The Cougars are led by Ren Dyer who has emerged as one of western North Carolina’s top players averaging over 31 points per game. He scored 40 points against Tuscola in a recent game won by the Black Hawks 102 to 76. The undefeated Lady Mustangs will face North Buncombe Friday at noon followed by the Boys contest. Today (Thursday) the Lady Mustangs will face a tough challenge when they tip off against Tuscola. The Lady Mountaineers have lost two games. They opened the season with a close fought 55 to 52 point loss to the Lady Mustangs then lost a stunner 54 to 52 at Pisgah. The girls game tip off will be today at 3:30 and aired on WRGC. The girls action will be followed by the Mustang Boys game with Tuscola at 4:30. The Mustangs have a 5 and 3 record and lost their season opener to the Mountaineers by an 80 to 69 point differential. The Mountaineers are 7 and 2 having only lost to North Henderson 74 to 66 and to North Buncombe 102 to 76. Again the game will be aired live on WRGC.
