Mustangs Break Out The Brooms At Brevard

The Smoky Mountain Mustangs made a statement early and often on Monday in Brevard. The JV Girls had no trouble cranking out a 37 to 15 point win. Not to be outdone the JV Boys sailed to a 61 to 30 point win. The Lady Mustangs Varsity had their hands full by a relentless team of Blue Devils but just were no match for all the weapons the Lady Mustangs pull out as needed. The Lady Blue Devils were held to five points in the third quarter and eight in the final period wile the Lady Mustangs were screaming to a 21 point fourth quarter production. Putnam and Douthitt each had two points, Parris, Floyd, McCauley and McRae scored three points, McCullom and Sutton each had four points, Jackson had eleven points and Tisho and Lewis each had 12 points. The Lady Mustangs go to 16 and 1 with a 61 to 36 point win over Brevard
The VARSITY BOYS got the win they deserved. Had the Mustangs won the games in which they were a shot of two away at the very end they could be 13 and 3, but Lady luck has smiled at someone else most of this season, but last night the Mustangs demonstrated a powerful comeback against a strong and fast Brevard team. The Blue Devils looked to be on their way to a blowout doing head 9 to in the fist to minutes. The Mustangs changed their defense and put more pressure on Brevard and opened up some shooting lanes of their own and were able to end the first quarter down 21 to 12. The second quarter was incredible basketball as the Mustangs outscored Brevard 24 to 13 and took a 36 to 34 point lead. The third quarter was a battle but the Mustangs held on 49 to 46. The Blue Devils tried to come back in the fourth but the Mustangs had an answer for all their attempts and took a 66 to 60 point win. The Mustangs were led by Tommy Brennan, then Cole Lamb with 13, Coffee and Lominac both had ten, Waliezer scored 7, Hughes chipped in five and Trey Hamilton had a three. Gage Kosnick received the player of the game based upon his defense. When Kosnick entered the game and began putting intense pressure on Brevard’s interior game led by 6-3 Aiden Green and 6-3 Breylan Owens the Blue Devils point production slowed to a crawl and gave the Mustangs the opportunity to battle back and take the lead and win. The teams face Swain on Wednesday.
