Mustang Varsity Boys Basketball Season Comes To An End

The Mustang Boys basketball team ran into a three point shooting shooting machine on Tuesday in King, NC. West Stokes sophomore guard Isaac Spainhour collected seven three point shots including five in the third quarter to lead the Wildcats to a 95 to 67 point win over the Mustangs. Senior Noah Spainhour added a couple from long range but he got most of his points inside on drives to the basket or on put backs from the rare misses by his teammates. Sophomore Elan Nuniz was also a three point shooting marvel hitting one long shot on the first but three in the second quarter to finish with twelve points. The Mustangs interior game was limited to just 20 points and eight points from the free throw line. However the Mustangs did outscore the Wildcats 18 to 12 in the final quarter but the damage was already done by that time. The Wildcats had led by as many as 31 points. Tyler Waliezer and Cole Lamb led the Mustangs with 17 points, Lamb connected four times from the distance. Tommy Brennan and Nate Coffee each added three from three point range. The Mustangs were rung up twelve times for fouls while the Wildcats were whistled only seven times. We owe much to the seniors on this team including Andrew Cobaugh, Tommy Brennan, Tyler Waliezer, Trey Hamilton, Nate Coffee, and Gage Kosnick. THANK YOU!!
Looking to next season the Mustangs will be returning a strong foundation including Cody Lominac, Cole Lamb, Jared Hughes, Alex Espinoza, Nate Crowe, and Zeb Sink. Plus several strong players from the Mustangs outstanding JV team are expected to make next years Mustangs a contender for the conference title however the Mountain Six Conference will be a battleground in 2019 because all the teams in the conference are returning a core of key players
