Mustang Football Extends Perfect Season To Four Wins

A sixty yard run by Cherokee’s Isaiah Evans gave the Braves an early six to nothing lead over Smoky Mountain. The try for the point after the touchdown was not successful. After the receiving the kickoff the Mustangs tried to find an offense but Cherokee’s Mitchel Bernhisel intercepted a James Hinson pass to give the Braves another scoring opportunity but the Mustangs defense did not allow Cherokee to move the ball and forced a punt.  Six plays later Hinson found Cody Lominac open for 57 yard completion but the long play was nullified by a penalty.  After  the Mustangs failed to drive the ball to the end zone Cherokee took over at their own eight yard line and moved the ball to midfield. Smoky Mountain’s Emmitt  Baldwin intercepted Bobby Crowe’s pass and returned it 35 yards.  On the next play a defensive pass interference call moved the ball to the Cherokee  12 but Hinson lost a yard of the next play which was a keeper. From the thirteen yard line Hinson found Cody Lominac for a touchdown pass  and Cole Lamb picked the Point After Touchdown to give the Mustangs a 7 to 6 lead with 9:35 to play in the half. With 7:16 to play in the first half Dustin Stevens took the hand off and sprinted 62 yards downfield  to the 32.  Two plays later Hinson found Stevens open again for a 33 yard completion and a score. The point after the touchdown by Lamb was good and the Mustangs led 14 to 6. There was no more scoring in the first half.  The Mustangs got the ball to start the second half and immediately went to work. A 40 yard completion to Dustin Stevens and a 20 yard completion to Lominac set up James Hinson to plunge over from one yard out  for the touchdown. Cole Lamb made it 21 to 6. The Mustangs defense held Cherokee to three and out the Braves returned the favor  on the Mustangs next possession. After the Mustangs punt, four plays later the Braves found Cade Mintz open for a 63 yard reception and race to the end zone  the PAT try was not successful and the score was 21 to 12.  A minute later William Frady finished off a drive with 44 yard run for a score and Cole Lamb’s PAT gave the Mustangs their final score of the night. The defenses dominated play for the remainder of the game.  Cole Lamb did an outstanding job all night with the Points After Touchdown but I miscalled his name several times during the game and I apologize for that.
